Was it always your goal to become an Orthopedic Surgeon? Tell us about your journey.
I participated in athletics during my childhood and broke my ankle when I was thirteen. I was exposed to physical therapy and initially had a goal to work as a therapist for a professional sports team. Dr. Ripley, my Orthopaedic Surgeon during my childhood and high school athletic career, offered me the opportunity to watch her perform a knee arthroscopy.
You were one of the leaders recognized at the Legacy of Leaders dinner and in the Portrait of Leadership Gallery that was held at Ocean 60. What does being a “leader” mean to you?
Being a leader means that I have the ability to not only make a difference in my community, but I also can help to motivate those people around to make meaningful contributions.
What advice would you leave future leaders?
My advice to future leaders is to constantly challenge yourself and do not be afraid to leave you comfort zone. Every day gives you the opportunity to make a difference in our community.
